Tiger Community, just a reminder!

Hello Tiger Community, We want to update you on today’s incident at Aztec High School that led to a lockdown. Around 10:00 AM, the Aztec Police Department informed us of a report regarding an individual with a weapon on campus. In response, we placed Aztec High in lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff. Police quickly arrived and collaborated with AHS leadership to secure the campus. As a precaution, we also moved other district schools to a secure status—locking outside doors and bringing students indoors—given the limited information available at that time. As the situation unfolded, we learned that similar reports were made at other schools across the country. After ensuring campus security, we returned to normal operations at other sites. At AHS, we worked with police to secure every classroom and organized staff to assist parents who arrived during the incident. We are still working with the police to determine if the report originated locally. Hello Tiger Community, At this time we have concluded our investigation and it appears that reports of a dangerous situation involving a possible weapon on Aztec High School's campus were false. We have secured all locations on campus with the assistance of police and have verified that there is no threat on the campus. We will be resuming normal operations soon. Hello Aztec Families, At this time we are lifting the secure for all school sites except for Aztec High School and will be resuming normal operations. Police are continuing to assist with investigating the matter at Aztec High School and will provide additional updates soon. Presently it does not appear that students or staff are in danger. Dear Parents and Guardians, We are excited to inform you that over the next few months, the Aztec Municipal School District will be rolling out a new school safety and dismissal platform called Pikmykid at our three elementary schools. This will replace our current system, Pickup Patrol. Each school will transition to Pikmykid at different times, with the goal of having all three schools fully using the new platform by January. Hello Tiger Community, Earlier we had an individual at AHS experience a medical episode that requires an ambulance to be on site. Students and staff are safe and Emergency Responders have departed the site. Hello Tiger Community, This week, we had 5th-grade students travel to the Connie Gotsch Young Audiences Performance Series at San Juan College, and they had a great time! A leader at San Juan College was so appreciative of our students, saying, "Hello Park Avenue, We loved having you at our performance on Wednesday. Your energy and enthusiasm were excellent! Kudos for being such a great and well-behaved audience”. Thank you, students, for representing your school so well. Thank you, teachers and PAES staff, for your hard work in helping prepare our students to shine in our community. And thank you, San Juan College, for this exciting opportunity for our students. Dear Tiger Community, We adjusted our spring 2025 graduation dates for Aztec High School and Vista Nueva High School to better accommodate all our amazing Seniors! Due to scheduling conflicts with the NMAA, AHS graduation is now May 21, 2025, at Fred Cook Stadium, and VNHS graduation is May 20, 2025, at San Juan College. The updated calendar can be found on our website, and a snapshot of it is attached here. Thank you for your understanding as we look forward to amazing celebrations this coming spring!

Hello Tiger Community, This evening we received a report regarding a reported threat. We wanted to take a moment to address this latest concern. As many of you are aware, there has recently been a spate of threats against many schools in New Mexico, including some of our schools.  These threats were disseminated through and spread across multiple social media networks.  We want to assure you that the police and the FBI have investigated these threats and have deemed them to not be substantive.  The threats were found generally originate from outside of our state.  We caution against taking things seen on social media as absolute truth.  We encourage our community members to seek out reliable sources of information, and to work to quell rumors or misinformation as these things may arise.  Individuals who make threats via social media aim to spread fear and panic.  Please talk with your children about correct social media use, and using these platforms for positive things.  We will continue to work closely when our partners with the police to look into these concerns as they arise and take steps that protect our students, staff, and community.
