FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dear Community, The Aztec Municipal School District has completed the instructional requirements for the 2021-2022 school year and has received approval from the New Mexico Public Education Department to end the school year earlier than the planned Tuesday, June 7, 2022. We recognize that, as community partners, many families depend on us – plus, this is the time of year for celebrations! As a result, all of our schools will be open as normal for students on Monday, June 6 and Tuesday, June 7, but student attendance will be optional! If you would like to start your summer as a family early, please do so! We will still have our buses running and meals will be provided at each site, just like a regular school day for those who want to attend. Our food services department will also be providing sack lunches for pick up at Aztec High School from 11:00AM to 12:00PM on Monday, June 6 for those who still would like a meal but are not attending school that day. In addition, on Monday, June 6, 2022, 5th grade students who attend school at Park Avenue will still have the opportunity to visit Koogler Middle School and 8th grade students at Koogler will still have the opportunity to visit Aztec High School. Finally, we ask that you contact your child’s respective school(s) in order to ensure that student chromebooks are returned and any applicable fees are resolved. Hello Aztec Community Aztec Schools will be providing summer lunches and breakfast beginning June 13 - June 30. Breakfast and Lunch meals can be picked up at Aztec High School in the student drop off area on the north side of the campus along Blanco Street. Meals will also be at First Baptist Church at 700 Navajo. Meals can be picked up between 11:00 and Noon daily Monday - Friday. We thank you for your support and welcome you to pick up meals each day. Aztec Municipal School District will be hosting a “Summer Industry Convening” on June 16th from 8:30 -11:30 am at Aztec High School. The district has many exciting developments to share and we would like to partner with our local industry to help redesign and dream of what is possible in providing career opportunities and career training for the students of Aztec. We have received notice that there is a gas leak on CR 2896, resulting in a closure of that road. The AMSD Transportation Department is contacting parents of students who live on CR 2896 to pick up their children at their school site or make other arrangements since the bus will not be permitted to travel on that road. In the event that you have not yet been contacted by the AMSD Transportation Department, please contact them at (505) 599-4303

Aztec High School Students! San Juan County is again hosting the “Summer Enrichment Internship Program” and will place students in paid internships throughout the county. Current high school students or graduates of the classes of 2021 and 2022 are eligible and must be at least 16 years old before this summer to participate. Student participants must provide their own transportation to their internship locations. Spots are limited and the application deadline to apply is May 26th. Internships will begin the week of June 20th and will go for six weeks until July 29th. Students will participate in industry internships with local businesses and receive employability workshops for a total of 20 hours a week and will be paid $12 an hour. The application can be found at www.sjcounty.net under apply now and the position is titled “2022 Summer Intern.” Thank you to the NMPED and San Juan County for making this amazing learning experience available to our students!

Aztec Businesses! Do you need some help this summer and would like to mentor local students in your industry? San Juan County is again hosting the “Summer Enrichment Internship Program” this summer and will place students in paid internships throughout the county. If you are interested, please email Tara Martinez at tamartinez@sjcounty.net with your business name, contact information, how many interns you would like to place at your business, a brief description of the industry, and a brief summary of the learning opportunities and work experience the students will gain.
