Aztec Municipal Schools has announced the launch of a new AI Attendance Assistant, created in partnership with Edia Learning, to enhance communication between schools and families regarding student attendance.
The AI-powered system provides near-instant text notifications to families when a student is absent, allowing parents and guardians to respond directly with explanations, questions, or updates. The two-way communication feature helps schools receive timely information and automatically update attendance records when appropriate.
In addition, families can submit photos of doctor’s notes or other documentation through text message, eliminating the need for in-person drop-offs or follow-up emails. To ensure equitable access, the AI Attendance Assistant can communicate with families in any language.
District leaders emphasize that the new tool is designed to support families, not penalize them. By identifying attendance concerns early and streamlining communication, Aztec Municipal Schools aims to strengthen partnerships with families and promote consistent attendance—an important factor in student engagement and academic success.
The AI Attendance Assistant is now active across the district, offering families a convenient and accessible way to stay informed and connected.
