My name is Kimberly Thornton and I have been in the district for 20 years. I was a teacher at Koogler Middle School for 12 years and have been a counselor here at Aztec High School since 2014. My husband and I have two daughters and he has a career in law enforcement. We both strive on helping our community. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education at ENMU (Go Greyhounds!!) and my Master of Arts in Counseling and Guidance through NMHU! I am a graduate of Aztec High School and grew up in Aztec. My family has been around here for a very long time. I came back here after college so that I could work in my old community to try and help make a difference. I love being a school counselor because I believe that EVERY student can move mountains and I am someone who gets to help them find their spark!

Hi! My name is Shawna Calvert and I have worked as a Guidance Counselor since the fall of 2015. Prior to that I was a teacher at Piedra Vista High School and Hermosa Middle School in Farmington, but I actually started my teaching career at Aztec High School in 1999. I received my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at Western New Mexico University and my Master's Degree in School Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University. Both my husband and I have worked in the field of Education all of our adult lives. We have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I love working at Aztec High School as a Guidance Counselor because I get to talk, and listen, to students everyday and I always learn something new about teenagers.

My name is Catherine Olson and I am the College & Career Counselor for 8th through 12th grade. I have been at Aztec High since 2016.  I genuinely love helping students identify their unique path during their high school years and beyond.  I have 20+ years of experience working with teens in various professional roles and in different parts of the country. I grew up in New Jersey and Kansas, but having raised my five children in the Four Corners area I consider Aztec home. My formal education includes BA-Sociology/Criminal Justice and a M.Ed. - Community Counseling. Along with loving being a part of Aztec High and the Aztec community I thoroughly enjoy time with family. I’m an all seasons outside kind of person - trail running, mountain biking, hiking, camping, gardening, etc. That’s a little bit about me. I look forward to getting to know each of you and your unique path in life.

We’re all rough drafts of the people we’re still becoming.” Bob Goff
