AHS Key Club Receives Several Awards


The AHS Key Club received several awards from the Southwest District (118 Key Clubs in AZ, NM, and El Paso, TX)
  • District and International Early Bird Dues
  • First Place for Non-traditional scrapbook
  • District Distinguished Club
  • Distinguished Officers
  • International Diamond Distinguished Club (Highest club award given by Key Club International)
  • First Place Achievement in Bronze Division (Awarded to best club in District with under 35 members)
  • AHS Club Secretary, Lashae Snyder was presented with the first ever, “Fire of the Southwest”
  • Amanda Howlett was elected Lieutenant Governor for the Petroglyphs Division.

Meghan Gerry named Wendy's High School Heisman Program National Finalist

Meghan Gerry, a Senior at Aztec High School, was recently named as one of 12 finalists for  2010 Wendy’s High School Heisman Program/National Finalist.  The Wendy's High School Heisman was created in 1994 to recognize high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics and in their communities.  We’re proud to say that there are several students who meet all of these criteria in the class of 2010. This year, more than 55,000 students applied for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, and all of them are exceptional.

Matt Hegarty Selected to Play in US Army High School All American Bowl

Matt Hegarty, a Senior at Aztec High School, was recently honored at an assembly by the Army for being one of 95 individuals across the country to be selected to play in the U.S. Army High School All American Bowl.  The Bowl will take place in San Antonio Texas on January 8, 2011 and will be televised on NBC.   Matt plans on attending Notre Dame University for College.

Tucker Truby Exhibits Grand Champion Pig

Tucker Truby, FFA member and  Aztec High School Junior, exhibited the Grand Champion pig at the San Juan County Fair in August of 2010.  This is his first year showing animals at the fair.  He credits the help and support of his dad, mom, and sister for his success.

AHS students compete at NM State Science Fair

AHS students Laura Lane, Phillip Lane & Talia Quinn all placed at the NM State Science Fair competition.

Laura Lane (pictured below) was the 1st place winner in environmental science for the senior division and has been invited to compete in the International Science Fair

Laura Lane Gains Agriscience and Paper Presentation Awards

Laura Lane, a Senior from Aztec High School, recently competed in the National FFA Agriscience Fair. She was awarded with a Gold pin in honor of the project titled: "Formulating Trends in Nematode Distributions Based on the Modified Baermann Funnel Extraction Method and using the Four Corners Key." Laura Lane was successful at the state level before moving onto the National Fair.  All 580 participants received their gold, silver, or bronze pins and were honored at Agriscience Awards Presentation at the National FFA Convention, October 20 - 23, in Indianapolis, IN.

Laura also recently competed in a paper presentation competition with the Society for Range Management High School Youth Forum and placed 1st in the state.  This qualifies her for the International Competition to be held in Billings, Montana in February.

Aztec High School PlayMakers Win State

The Aztec High School PlayMakers recently competed in the NMAA One Act Plays competition and brought home the state Championship.  Members include: Dani Austgen, Breeana Bell, Kimmy Blake, Maggie Dingwall, Terra DiGiacomo, Charles Dobey, Tim Drake, Kyle Forsythe, Jessica Gomez, Ian Hensler, Sherly Jones, Cathlene Kilpatrick, Shane Kirkland, Eric Lang, Zoe Pike, Austin Polkinghorne, Davina Randleman, Alyssa Wayner, and Yolanda Wilson.

Transportation Heroes

Scott Hardin and Marvin Divine receive a certificate of appreciation from Superintendent Carpenter and the Director of Transportation Riley Roland.  Not pictured is Larry Stewart.  These individuals went above and beyond and took care of a group of student athletes from Moriarty after their bus broke down.  They made sure that the students got to their event and that they had a repaired bus so they could return home.  Great job!

Star Teacher at Lydia Rippey

Linda Parker of Lydia Rippey Elementary School was recently awarded the NMMEA John Batcheller Award for Excellence in Teaching Elementary Music.

Mrs. Parker was selected from all New Mexico elementary music teachers.  Go Mrs. Parker!
